The closure of the Wallace Shipyards in North Vancouver opened up a huge waterfront site to development, one that the city foresaw as a new mixed-use neighbourhood. With preserved shipyard buildings and cranes providing a link to the past, Pinnacle International has built a community populated by numerous condominiums, commercial space, and a 105-room hotel. Following the Atrium and Trophy developments, the 201-unit Cascade at the Pier will offer tenants unlimited views of Vancouver, Stanley Park, and the Lions Gate Bridge.

The 10-storey project along Victory Ship Way will have one- to three-bedroom units ranging in size from 625 to 3,050 square feet. Each unit features outdoor space, hardwood flooring, Bosch appliance packages, and at least nine-foot ceiling heights. The amenities at the nearby Pinnacle Pier Hotel — from the 80-foot lap pool to the fully equipped gym — will be available to residents of Cascade.

Designed by IBI Group, the architecture of the complex is generally aligned with its predecessors, which feature a distinct metal framework atop the roof. Renderings show the swooping crown element, as well as the public realm surrounding the structures, punctured with vegetation.

Recent images portray the current scene at the site, which is being serviced by a pair of cranes. The narrow floor plates of the concrete structure reveal the type of presence the new tower will have on the neighbourhood. The development is expected to take occupancy in 2018.
