Developers Macdonald Development Corporation and Reliance Properties have moved towards the construction phase on their 37-storey residential tower in Surrey. Slotted into a site along University Drive, the Bingham Hill Architects-designed Prime on the Plaza project embraces the micro-suite living concept, with units starting at just 295 square feet.

Comprised of 398 residences, including approximately a dozen townhomes, the development's space-saving units are based on a modal system of interchangeable functions. The living space adapts to one's needs throughout the day — the dining room and bedroom are one in the same, with a Murphy bed hiding a collapsable dining table underneath that deploys when the bed is upright. This ensures that every available iota of space is used to its full potential.

But no matter the size of the home, each resident will have access to a slate of bespoke amenity spaces designed to entertain, exercise, and relax. The 16,000-square-foot package comes with a fully equipped fitness centre, a wellness area with a yoga studio and massage room, a sauna and steam room, private music practice rooms, private study rooms, kitchen-equipped entertainment rooms, a business centre, a podium garden, and a rooftop lounge and patio.

Concrete footings and rebar poking out of the ground provides passersby with an indication that the building is beginning to climb. When completed, residents will only have to walk a few minutes to access key Surrey landmarks, including City Hall, the Bing Thom-designed City Centre Library, and Simon Fraser University.
