The cutout to provide balcony space/light to the interior is nice. Avoids having any units overlooking that ugliness out back.

There is some impressive change coming to this little area when you add in 1684 and 1550 Alberni, plus 1616 and 1500 W. Georgia.

Reddit has some talk of a construction accident at Hornby and Drake. Looks like maybe a concrete pump boom came down and the sidewalk protection did its job. No injuries. Seems to be in the same area as this pic from City of Rain -
