Despite the politically charged connotations that come with its name, Trump International Hotel and Tower is reaping accolades for its striking design. The International Property Awards have recognized the 63-storey skyscraper with seven awards for its design and construction after 80 judges from around the world cast their vote for the landmark development.

The seven awards bring attention to the development's architecture, interior design and construction. Trump International Hotel and Tower racked up honours in the following categories at the Americas Property Awards: Development Marketing Canada, Best Hotel Architecture Canada, Best Hotel Interior Canada, Best Residential Highrise Architecture Canada, Mixed-use Development Canada, Best New Hotel Construction and Design Canada and Residential Highrise Development Canada.

The concept for the twisting tower was developed by Arthur Erickson, with Musson Cattell Mackey Partnership and dys architecture helping to bring the project to fruition alongside developers Holborn Group and TA Global. The building began construction in 2012 and was completed in February 2017. It holds 214 condominiums and 147 suites supplemented with 15,000 square feet of meeting and event space. Some 200,000 guests have stayed at the hotel since its opening.

Each year, applicants from over 160 countries participate in the International Property Awards, which has amassed a sterling reputation in the global real estate industry over its 30-year history. The property will now head to the finals of the International Property Awards in London on December 4.
