The 1969-built Dairy Queen at East Hastings and Lakewood Drive will be making an exit if recently submitted rezoning plans for the site are approved by the City. Developer Mosaic Homes is eyeing the property as a perfect fit for a six-storey residential building featuring 4,700 square feet of ground-level commercial space, including a 2,690-square-foot corner restaurant.

Proposed to contain 42 rental units and 45 underground parking spaces, Yamamota Architecture has designed a sensitive brick-faced mid-rise for 2109 East Hastings, a property that sold for $5.45 million last year. A preliminary breakdown of the unit types yields 12 studios, 14 one-bedrooms, and 14 two-bedroom suites. The development would be served by a 400-square-foot amenity space and an outdoor patio next to the Lakewood Drive lobby entrance.

The proponents will divulge more information at an open house scheduled for Monday, November 6 from 5 to 7:30 PM at the Aboriginal Friendship Centre (1607 East Hastings Street).
