Another string of rental buildings has been demolished in Burnaby to make way for a highrise condominium development, this time, Polygon's Midori at 6579 Marlborough Avenue. Designed by DYS Architecture, the Metrotown development is gradually assuming form, revealing its organic curves and charcoal and silver window wall, soon to be complemented by a green flowing leaf motif covering its undulating series of balconies. The name of the building and its design go hand in hand: Midori means a leafy green colour in Japanese.

The 37-storey building will contain 244 two-bedroom homes and nine two-bedroom townhouse units at the base of the tower. Living spaces come in three colour schemes and feature eight-and-a-half-foot ceilings throughout the main areas. Wood-style laminate flooring will stretch across the living spaces to a sliding or swinging patio door onto a balcony. Engineered stone countertops, flat-panel custom cabinetry, and stainless steel kitchen appliances characterize every suite. Common areas dedicate space for a fully equipped fitness studio, a multi-purpose lounge and billiards room, a dog grooming station, three car-wash stations and several electric car plugins.

The latest construction update shows the work crews have conducted so far, with the building having risen past the halfway point. The bulging floor plates have begun to outline the amorphous building silhouette as two-toned spandrel panels seal the lower levels of the structure. Occupancy is currently on track for summer 2018.
