Ledingham McAllister is in the midst of adding more density on the irregularly shaped site bounded by Gilmore Avenue, Douglas Road and Halifax Street in Burnaby. After completing the 34-storey Aviara, the developer is aiming even higher with the sequel Escala, which is slated to rise 42 storeys high.

The IBI Group-designed development includes the main point tower that will hold 369 homes across its glazed confines. An additional 151 homes scattered across two four-storey wood-frame buildings, the self-named Terra low-rise collection, offers an alternative to living in the sky.

Residents of Escala are automatically enrolled into The Escala Club, the building's exclusive amenities suite. The 15,000-square-foot space includes an indoor pool and spa, private fitness room and yoga studio, fireside social lounge, catering kitchen, billiards and ping pong tables, a movie theatre, and a music room.

Escala markets itself as "affordable luxury," with the designers imparting a resort-style atmosphere in the interior spaces. The separate buildings in the vertical village are bordered by winding paths, water features and landscaping that double as amenity spaces across the complex.
