In the shadow of the Canada Line mere steps from Lansdowne Station, Beedie Living is installing a highrise condominium fronting the busy No. 3 Road in Richmond. The 15-storey Orchid, now well into the vertical construction phase, bolsters a city-wide vision for high-street retail by integrating large commercial bays into its base. And unlike most nondescript condominium retail spaces, Orchid's are framed in Carrara marble to dramatically enhance the curb appeal.
The development will feature 122 one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes in a building anchored by its striking retail spaces and a row of townhouse villas. German integrated premium appliances are paired with white glass and wood grain cabinetry in the kitchen. A protruding rectangular balcony outlined by fritted glass extends the living space outside. There's nearly 10,000 square feet of additional outdoor space to explore on the amenities deck, including an elevated garden terrace supplemented by soft Japanese maples, extensive landscaping, a water feature, and a children's play area.
Orchid's massing and height have been informed by the site's inherent constraints. A flood plain made putting the parking underground impossible, so all resident spaces are instead propped above. Like other highrises in Richmond, the building's height is restricted by its proximity to the airport.
Designed by Rafii Architects and dys architecture, Orchid's pure, symmetrical form is steadily taking shape. Now rising above the SkyTrain tracks, the structural skeleton will soon be covered in a rich palette of marble and glass.
