There has been a lot of progress at the site of the Wall Group of CompaniesStrathcona Village since our last photo update in November, when the GBL Architects-designed project was just a few levels above East Hastings Street. In the months that have elapsed since that time, the development has reached its structural zenith, and its varied materiality is now taking shape.

The multi-faceted development is characterized by three boxy volumes erupting from a sprawling interconnected mid-rise structure, which will partially house approximately 60,000 square feet of commercial space, including industrial flex, manufacturing, and retail programs. Each tower is given its own identity — the Raymur, Heatley and Ballantyne — and divvies up a portion of the floor space for amenities.

A number of heavily landscaped outdoor decks punctuate the complex, with areas for urban agriculture providing a more unique experience for residents. The development will also contain multiple meeting and lounging spaces, in addition to a fully equipped fitness centre.

With the building topped off, exterior sheathing has kicked into high gear. So far, the development is turning out to be a faithful re-creation of the rendering, which showed the structure brandishing glazing and an alternating orange and red pattern of aluminum scrim.
