The seemingly never-ending construction of new condominiums in Vancouver and its outlying areas is evidence of the region's strong real estate scene, which remains one of the hottest housing markets in North America even in the face of the much-talked-about foreign buyers tax. That strength has been duly encapsulated in Metrotown's new Gold House development, a two-tower highrise scheme by Rize Alliance and Chris Dikeakos Architects. Its 490 units sold like hotcakes after launching in December 2015 — 460 were accounted for after just 10 days.
The tallest of the two towers is slated to jump to a 38-storey pinnacle, with an amenity-filled podium planting the development in the streetscape. At Berresford and McKay, an innovative three-storey digital canvas will become a signature piece of public art, one that will be highly visible from the SkyTrain's Expo and Millennium lines. Gold House's most distinguishable exterior feature — one that is appropriately referenced in its name — is the systematic injection of gold accents. Taking the form of protruding boxes, the colour highlights surround three-level spans on all corners of the building.
Interiors designed by Hirsch Bedner Associates include expansive windows, nine-foot-high ceilings, and a generously sized terrace in each suite. A Bosch kitchen appliance package stands alongside custom Italian Armony Cucine soft-close cabinets. Homebuyers have a choice between two distinct colour options — Quartz and Graphite — to match their refined tastes. Meanwhile, the penthouse collection features homes up to almost 1,500 square feet, with patios up to 1,230 square feet.
Each tower comes with an exclusive roster of amenities. The south tower's 11,000 square feet will allocate space for a fitness centre, yoga studio, music practice room, and two spacious social rooms complete with a show kitchen and dining and lounging areas. The north tower contains an even larger 30,000 square feet of amenities stretching indoors and outdoors, with over 4,000 square feet of furnished outdoor terrace space. Another fitness centre, music practice room, and social room cater to the residents of the purposefully designed tower.
With the sales centre now closed, construction on the project has begun. Images from Forum contributor City Of Rain show the below-grade levels of the development being constructed. The site is just across the street from Boffo Developments' nearly complete Modello project, which also boasts a design by Chris Dikeakos Architects.
