Considered alongside fellow IBI Group-designed projects in Montreal (L'Avenue), Toronto (Minto Yorkville Park), and New Westminster (Trapp+Holbrook), all of which recently won various international design awards, Vancouver's One Pacific is no exception. The 20-storey 435-unit condo tower won Best Urban High-Rise Residential as well as the Vancouver Sun Reader's Choice Award at the Pacific Region Urban Development Institute (UDI) Awards for Excellence. Notable for its signature cantilevered hanging pool and overall sleek wave-inspired design, One Pacific's recent win can be attributed to a multitude of factors, from the design of the tower itself, to the many public realm improvement initiatives that have been implemented at its base.

Known officially as the Riviera Deck and Spa, the star attraction of the eye-catching amenity space is by far the suspended glass-walled heated pool. The modular glass container can be seen prominently above the front entrance, thus adding an extra touch of whimsy to the already whimsical tower.

At ground level, the list of public realm improvements is equally impressive. the addition of ample green space and seating, not to mention water features, the planting of new trees, and efforts to work with the city to implement bike lanes and other streetscape upgrades, were considered alongside the more traditional architectural design aspects when selecting this project for the award.

IBI Group's One Pacific, much like its other award-winning projects, has been successful in putting Canadian architecture on the map. The nation's largest firm — the sixth largest in the world — has long set a high bar for architecture and design.
